Beware of “3rd-party” companies doing MLS listing
Beware of "3rd-party" companies who advertise to list your home in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) for a flat fee. More often than not, they are "brokering" your listing to a 3rd party who may in turn, broker your listing to a 4th party, and so on. All of them taking a chunk of the listing fee. You have no control over the quality of your listing and its content because you don't know who you are dealing with!
The main problem I have with these companies is that they give the "flat fee" or fee for service concept a bad name. And the consumer doesn't get what (they think) they are paying for. I frequently see these companies advertise on the internet, offering to get you into the MLS for a very low cost. But before you sign on the dotted line, know what you are getting for your money!
I've spoken with many unhappy home sellers who were misled by these companies. They found out, after they signed the contract & paid their money that the listing was referred to a 3rd party. In talking with that company they found out that the listing would expire after a certain period of time, and then they had to pay again to stay in the MLS.
